Abstract
The purpose of this present study was to investigate Narrative coherence of High Functioning Autism(HFA) children appeared in summary writing tasks under two narrative presentation conditions(Auditory only, AO & Auditory-visual, AV). 15 HFA Children (Mean Age: 7.93), 15 Chronological Age-matched normal children(CA-matched) (MA:7.87) and 15 Language Age-matched normal children(LA-matched) (MA:7.6) participated. All participants listened to a story under two different conditions, and were asked to write summaries. HFA children showed significantly less proportion of topic expression and total number of usage of cohesive markers than CA matched group. However, there was no significant main effect in narrative presentation conditions. Story comprehension task scores and sentence comprehension ability predicted story coherence of HFA group. The results are discussed in relation to weak central coherence theory. We also discussed clinical implication from the result.
